Our pickling bath fluid is recommended for immersion pickling of small objects and for pickling surfaces that are time-consuming to brush or spray pickle. It can also be used for circulation cleaning of pipe systems.

Pickling Bath 302

The bath fluid is recommended for immersion pickling of small objects and for pickling surfaces that are time-consuming to brush or spray pickle. It can also be used for circulation pickling of pipe systems.

Features

  • Restores stainless steel surfaces that have been damaged during fabrication operations such as welding, forming, cutting and blasting. It removes weld oxides, the underlying chromiumdepleted layer and other defects that may cause local corrosion.
  • Working life; the bath fluid is consumed during usage and the effective working life of the bath fluid is determined by the amount of acids and dissolved metals. The bath fluid should hence be analyzed regularly, and new acid should be added when needed in order to obtain an optimal pickling result. We may assist with this analysis service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are pickling products used for?

Pickling products are used to remove surface imperfections from stainless steel and other metal alloys. This is done through a chemical reaction. The primary purpose of pickling is to remove impurities, scale, rust, and oxides from the surface of a metal.  This helps to leave it clean and ready for further processing.

What are the types of pickling products?

The most common types of pickling products are pickling paste, pickling spray, and pickling bath solutions.

Pickling paste is a thick gel paste that can be applied directly to the metal surface. It’s ideal for minor imperfections on flat or curved surfaces. The paste uses chemicals like hydrochloric or nitric acid to dissolve the imperfections. You then neutralise and rinse the area.

For larger-scale pickling, pickling spray and pickling baths are ideal. Pickling sprays are convenient and easy to apply. Pickling baths submerge the entire metal part in a chemical bath. The bath removes imperfections and restores the surface to a uniform finish.

What are the benefits of using pickling products on metals?

The primary benefit of pickling products is that they help prevent rust and corrosion. This is done by removing oxidation and built-up contaminants from the surface of metals. Pickling pastes and sprays create a clean surface that is less prone to corrosion. This is especially useful for metals that will be welded, soldered or joined in any way.

How do I use pickling products properly and safely?

You should always follow the instructions provided on the safety data sheet or product labels. Make sure to use these products in a well-ventilated area and wear proper protective gear. After pickling, thoroughly rinse the metal with water to remove any remaining acid residue.

Also, ensure to never pour used pickling solutions down drains or dispose of them in general waste. Dispose of  all used solutions, rinse water and waste as per the directions given and as required by local environmental regulations.

Where can I buy pickling products in Australia?

As the leading distributor for Avesta Finishing Chemicals, Midway Metals offers the widest range of pickling solutions in Australia. These include pickling spray, pickling paste, pickling baths, and other chemical products.

So whether you need a small bottle of pickling paste or a fully automated pickling line, Midway Metals has the solution.
